Auto Insurance Claims/totaled someone else's vehicle

Question
my son totaled a friend's vehicle.  He was given permission to drive the vehicle.  Who's insurance company covers the claim - the owner of the vehicle, or my son's?  The owner reported the claim.  Do we need to contact our son's insurance?

Answer
Hi Kathy,
The insurance policy on the vehicle always applies first.
Your son's policy stands in the background as additional coverage if needed or to fill in any 'gaps' of coverage that his friend did not carry, assuming this was just an
occasional use of the friends car.
I Hope this has been of help.
Sincerely,
Bennie
