Auto Insurance Claims/recovered-stolen truck

Question
My daughters truck was stolen from home and later recovered with body damage-which insurance has fixed, but the after market radio was also taken, they have approved to pay for the wiring/harness and not a radio-and did question body shop if it appeared to have had one to begin with. Now what do I do?  They had broke into our home doing the middle of the night and stole A LOT from us and this is just added stress to a bad situation, they can look and tell we did not claim old damage that already existed!

I cannot speak for your insurance company but I myself have the means and experience in most cases to determine the existence of certain after market equipment.  When not sure, I have a specialty vendor that can be used for further investigation when warranted.  

That said, the parts in question generally have to be pretty darn expensive and there are generally other suspicious factors involved before we take too close of a look at these things.  

If it is just a matter of an OEM head unit vs. a standard AM/FM CD player, I have found that most aftermarket head units are no more than about $300 and a used or reman OEM is the same or more.  I'll pay the cost of the OEM and the customer can apply the money however they wish.  If they are claiming a very expensive in-dash TV, Satellite etc., then further investigation is warranted.

Keep in mind that when whatever insurance premium that your paying is based on a factory vehicle.  The insurer is not necessarily required to accept the risk of a bunch of expensive aftermarket equipment unless they are being paid extra premium dollars to do so and you have documented proof that such items were actually installed in the vehicle.
