Question
I'm getting a car soon. My dad's kinda cheap, so i gotta get it at a maximum price of approx 4k. I really wanted a car that looks like a sports car, but runs well, since I couldn't have a sports car (insurance would be too expensive). I was thinking about an Acura Integra. Maybe a '98. Would the insurance company consider that a sports car?
Also, what other cars might fit what I'm looking for?

Answer
Hi Zack,
Any of the small cars with high horsepower commonly referred to as "pocket rockets" are going to fall in the penalty category with most companies.  (The Integra falls in this category.)
With most companies, the Mazda Miata, V6 Mustang, V6 Camaro and V6 Pontiac Firebird do not fall in the penalty category and they are all 'sporty' cars and fun to drive.
Since rules vary between companies, I suggest that you make a list of the cars that interest you and then call your Dad's insurance agent and have him tell you which cars will carry a penalty.
It sounds like you may be a fairly new driver between age 16 & 18.
If so, the only way you are going to get an affordable price will be through your dad's policy and you may have to register the car in his name to do that.
I hope that you will find this information useful.
