what if your the driver in the rear that hit the car in front but you were paying attention; the driver just stopped too fast?

Every state has a law that requires you to operate your vehicle in such a manner as to be able to bring it under control no matter what
should happen on the road ahead of you.
You will still be found at fault for this accident due to driving to fast for conditions or for following to close.
