Auto Insurance Claims/Comprehensive Auto Insurace Question

Question
I feel sick! I just tried to remove dried bug juice from several areas on my wife 2009 Nissan and managed to make scratches all over the car - hood, doors, plastic chrome grill, etc! Will my comprehensive insurance cover this? It's going to need nearly half the car to be re-painted, I'm sure. My deductible is $250 but I'm sure it's going to cost over $2,000 to fix it. The car is only a few months old - metallic paint ...I should never have used a dish scouring pad - it didn't look like it was that abrasive but I think it was part steel wool! Thanks - Alex

Answer
Keep in mind that removing bug juice is a job for a professional detail shop.
With their special cleansers, high speed buffers and some wax, they may be able to repair the damage that you have done.
I recommend this as your first step.  Go to a professional detail shop and have them view the damage and give you an opinion if they can repair the damage with their equipment and magic cleansers.

If the detail shop feels that they can't buff out the scratches, then make a report to your insurance company.
Comprehensive covers a large number of named losses, including but not limited to: window breakage, vandalism, fire, theft, wind and storm damage, flood, hail, falling objects, riot and civil commotion.  Since the damage that happened to your car is not covered by one of the named perils of comprehensive, there is only a borderline chance of having it covered by your insurance company.  If you are insured with one of the top line insurance companies and have been with the same company for over 5 years and have a relatively claims free record, the adjuster just might bend the rules and provide coverage for part or all of the damage.

I hope you find this information to be helpful.
