I moved out of my parents address 2 years ago but have not informed my insurance company. Will i still be covered

Answer
Hello Caroline,

I moved out of my parents address 2 years ago but have not informed my insurance company. Will i still be covered

Probably not. Most auto policies cover accidents for Family Member. The tricky thing is that they define a Family Member very narrowly. A Family Member is a person related to you AND is a resident of the same household. They will do an investigation to see when you moved, if you have utility bills on your name, where you get your mail, if you bought a house, if you are a renter somewhere else etc. If they can show that you don’t reside at  home, then per the policy, you are not a family member, and therefore no coverage would be granted.

There are some exceptions to the rule and that is if you are in the Military, and/or in College (enrolled and can show that). It depends on every policy, so it is hard to tell, but the above is the general rule.
