Question
Hello, my boyfriend and I were driving when we were involved in a 6 car pile up, anyway, because of that accident my insurance added my boyfriend to my car insurance without permission, and now my car insurance doubled. Was that legal? I need help now, I can't afford the new payments, and My boyfriend and I are just that, we don't live together, unfortantley he dosn't have car insurance. Help please!

Answer
Hi Trish,
I have noticed over the past several years that insurance companies are adding drivers to the policy when they reside in the same household or appear to have regular use of the car.
The fact that your boyfriend doesn't have a care is sufficient reason for them to feel that he is a regular driver of yours.

You can probably approach your insurance company and have them voluntarily EXCLUDE your boyfriend from your policy.  If this is done, it means that they will not pay a penny for any accident in which he was the driver and you as the owner would be responsible for damage and injury in the other car as well as your own car.

In the 6 car accident that you mentioned, was your boyfriend at fault?
If so, your insurance company probably paid out many thousands of dollars for his actions.

Good luck,
Bennie
