Question
Hi,

Two days back an Uninsured car had come and hit my Car on rear bumper. Its broken in the middle and that person told me that he can pay for it. But today when i call that guy, he is asking me to wait for 2-3 weeks. I'm not sure if this guy is going to fix or not. FYI..i leave in TX. I know as per law nobody is supposed drive the car without insurance. What do you suggest do i have to inform my insurance company? or should i wait and see for 2-3 weeks?

Thanks in advance,
Sree

Answer
Contact your insurance company. Remember that you have a duty to report losses

If you fail to report, your own insurance company might decline payment later on (if this guy does not show up with your money). You can call and tell your insurance company of your situation and they would wait 2 to 3 weeks if you ask them to. If he does not pay, then your insurance company can help you get your damages covered.

Also, if you have your insurance company look at your bumper, the you are getting a fair estimate. You do not know what he is going to offer or if it will even be enough to pay for the report.

I hope this helps,
Anne
