Auto Insurance Claims/claim check

Question
I filed a claim after a tree landed on my car from a wind strorm, have had estimates done, and the adjuster looked the car over and gave us his estimate.  This was a week ago and I still haven't received the check.  I called and they said it was mailed out on Monday.  Someone told me that the check will be made out to me and the insurance company, so I can't deposit it.  Someone else told me that they deposited their check into their account, and then paid the repair shop.  Which is it, and should I be worried that the check might be lost in the mail?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sheena,
If the check is coming from the insurance company of the person who owned the tree, you can expect it to be in your name only.
If the check is coming from your own car insurance company then it will be most likely made out to you and the repair shop.
Your policy states that the responsibility of the insurance company is to repair your car (not cash settle).
When you take the car in for repair, you simply sign the check and give it to the shop.
If you don't have a check within 10 days from the date they said it was mailed, you should call for a replacement check.

I hope that you find this information to be of help.

Your feedback by rating my response will be appreciated.

Sincerely,
