Auto Insurance Claims - Salvage vehicle

Expert: Ron Cercone - 11/2/2009

Question
Hi, I will be purchasing a 2002 TahoeXL that is salvage i would like to know if in an accident again what would  the ACV paid to me by the insurance company be.

Answer
I would expect a 10% deduction in ACV from a "reasonable" insurer and 50% from a "low quality" insurer. Go to insuranceclaimhelp.org to see a list of insurers rated for "quality" based on how they pay claims. A financially strong insurer is no indication of how well they pay their claims. Get the car without a salvage title if possible.
