Question
I was driving into the area where I park my vehicle. It is in my neighbors yard. As I was entering, the metal gate started to swing back. I jumped out to catch it without putting the car in park. The car went into the side wall.
My car sustained damage to the drivers side quarter panel.
Should I make a claim with my insurance company or try to go through the neighbors insurance. I pay my neighbor monthly to park in their yard.

Answer
Hi Linda,

Based on your explanation, this would be considered your fault. You would make a claim on your auto insurance since the damage occued as a result of the operation of your car. Your auto insurance will pay for the damage to your car (less your collision deductible) as well as any damage to your neighbors house and/or gate.

I hope this helps
