Auto Insurance Claims/Deer Accident

Question
I recently had a deer run into the side of my car. The damage was just under $500.00. I have $500.00 deductible. I was told by the manager of the collision shop that there is some sort of conservation law that states if an accident of this sort happens the insurance waives the deductible. Is this correct? I am in New York State.

Answer
Hi Paul,

Unfortunately, your question is too state specific. I am not aware of any such law.

You would need to consult with someone who actually handles claims in New York for an answer.

You might try calling your agent and just ask a "hypothetical" question without telling them that it is regarding yourself. Just say that a friend was hit by a deer and you heard about this law and is it true.

I hope this helps
