Auto Insurance Claims/Auto Totaled -- Claim Adjustor wants loan number

Question
Is it normal practice for a claim adjustor to ask for my loan number and name of loan company prior to determining the value of my car that was totaled in an accident?
Thanks for your prompt response to this request.

Rob

Answer
Rob,

Not necessarily, but the lienholder on your car must be paid off prior to you receiving anything in settlement of the claim, so there's nothing wrong with one asking for that information. It should not have anything to do with the value he comes up with for your car.
