Auto Insurance Claims/Old Accident

Question
I am leasing a car and I backed into a metal railing at work. There was no damage to the railing, but my car was left with a deep scratch on the bumper and slightly on the side panel. I haven't made a claim on my insurance because I haven't been able to afford the deductible. The accident happened almost a year ago. Is it too late to make a claim on my insurance?

Answer
No, it isn't too late to make the claim. In fact, you allowed your insurance company to hold the funds that were payable on that claim for a year, collecting interest. There should be no problem when you report the claim. Just explain to the person you speak with and tell them why you delayed in making the claim. If you were covered as of the date of loss, they have to pay the claim.
