Auto Insurance Claims/personal injury claim

Question
While I was on vacation in Alaska 12/24/08, I was rear ended by another vehicle.  My no fault insurance company handled my medical claim.  I wanted to make a personal injury claim against the other driver.  I was told that since I live in another state I would need to hire an Alaska attorney. After finding an attorney on-line, he said I should try to send a demand letter on my own.  I suffered shoulder and thumb injuries. I went to physical therapy for both. The shoulder pain can be controlled with exercise.  The thumb pain was finally diagnosed as a sprain after several visits and an MRI.  I don't have near the range of motion I had before the accident, and find it difficult to perform certain task using my thumb.  I was told it could take up to a year to heal, and that there is no guarantee I would regain the full range of motion I once had.  So, I am writing a letter and have "demanded compensation" of $30,000.  I know they will make a counter offer, but I was wondering if that was a fair amount for compensation.

Answer
Hello Roseann,

Your question is very hard to answer without looking at all your medical records. Are you sure you will recover?

Again, without all the information is very difficult. Only an attorney can help you with that.
You need to determine what you feel confortable with and move forward.
