Auto Insurance Claims/Paint scratches - should I file a claim ?

Question
When I came back to my car (2007 2-Dr Accord DX, 10K miles) after shopping, I found two scratches on it. One near the fuel injection, and one on the side-view mirror (driver's side). Both are less than 1 cm, but are pretty deep (the paint has come off). Looks like someone who was parked beside me hit my car with their car door while coming out. There wasn't any car parked beside me, but from the direction of the scratch, I can see that the other car must have been parked facing the opposite direction with respect to my car (minor detail).

I have comprehensive coverage (no deductible). Should I file claim for this, or should I let it go for: saving money on premiums in the long term; avoiding all the hassale of filing a claim which the insurance company will try to deny ? The 2 scratches are very unsightly.....

Answer
Hello TP,

Well, some agents will tell you to not say anything and fix them yourself because your rates will increase. Without knowing your claim history, it will be very difficult to tell if you should file or not.

There is a good discussion about this here:

I believe that if you pay insurance, you better use it! But again, without all the information it is very hard to steer you in the right direction.

Good Luck,
Anne
