Question
Ohio, my 1996 mustang was hit as i was sitting at a preflight. the other driver was making a left turn out of the speedway. he was sited as at fault. the adjuster totaled out my mustang and is offering 1800.00 i feel this is really low i cant find any mustangs under 3800.00 and i just dumped almost 1600.00 in to this car 6 mths ago. i know trying to get a lawyer for this would only cost me more money than its worth but how can i get them to up the settlement offer some. At this point in time I'm wondering what insurance is for. they always short hand people but drop you if you don't pay them on time. I'm just so frustrated. with my receipts is it possible i can get them to add some of the cost i payed for the new parts that was put on.

Answer
Walter,
If any of that 1600 was spent on maintenance stuff like new alternator, battery, tires or other worn or damaged parts, it won't increase the value. You need to destroy the adjusters valuation and maybe present your own valuation. There are many ways to do this, from easy to hard, all outlined in one of the eBooks at uclaim.com on Total Loss Auto. For example, if he used a CCC or ADP valuation, you must be able to show how it is flawed (and they usually are).
