Question
I live in Texas and I was recently involved an auto accident. I was hit from behind and was not at fault. I am waiting on the police report. How long do I have to file a claim on the insurance of the gentleman who caused the accident?

Answer
Hi Graham,

There is no specific time limit. The only requirement is that it is reported "as soon as possible". So if you already know the name of the insurance companyt and have some basic information on the driver, you should go ahead and call the insurance company and report the claim. You can always send them a copy of the police report when you get it. This will speed up the process because the insurance company will nto pay the claim until they speak to their insured. Getting things started early will allow them some time to make contact with their insured driver.

I hope this helps
