Auto Insurance Claims/Double Insurance

Question
Currently I share one of my vehicles and my father/mother have comprehensive on it...I also have an insurance policy for the vehicle but only liability

to make things more complicated i just switched insurance company's and this new company asked me to exclude people who are not on the policy and live in the house hold

what would happen claim wise if say, my mother was driving (and she's excluded) gets into an accident and has to make a claim

would she just make a claim under her insurance policy (comprehensive) and everything would be taken care of

or would the fact that there are two insurance policy's (one that she is excluded on) complicate things and possibly lead to no insurance coverage at all?

Answer
Hello Mike,

Well, this would create substantial problems. 99% of the states out there do not allow for double insurance in a car. IF for the odd reason this were to happen, the insurance companies would pay 1/2 of their respective responsibility so there is no double recovery.

If one is excluded in one policy, there could still be coverage on the other. However, this would become a substantial coverage investigation (leaving you without coverage for extended periods of time) and you can avoid this by getting one policy where you get exactly what want on your car.

It's hard to give you more details without reading your entire policies.

I hope this helps
