Auto Insurance Claims/Is my accident covered

Question
I was involved in an auto accident this morning where my son was driving and he was at fault.  I have not added him to my policy because he is very rarely a driver and lives with his mother not me.  I have full coverage because i am still paying on the car.  I was in the vehicle with him.  Is the accident normally covered.  Is the coverage on me or on my car?

Answer
Hi Gordon,

Since your son does not live with you he is not required to be listed on your policy. He is required to be listed on his mother's policy since he is a resident of her household.

Auto insurance follows the vehicle not the driver. So you can loan your vehicle to any licensed driver who does not live in your household and there will be coverage.

I hope this helps
