Question
My question is I hit someone from behind in July of 2002 I had no insurance so statefarm insurance acquired a lawyer and they suspended my driverslicense until I made payment arrangements it was for $8000.00 I am still paying on this everytime I am late with a payment they send me threatening letters to submit a form to the court to suspend my drivers license, I was laid off from my job in 2009 and have a very limited income , sometimes I cant even get my rent paid, I have to have a license so that I can keep looking for work how long can they keep harassing me to threaten my license because of failure to pay, I know I need to pay this debt but I have very little income from unemployment what can I do. Thank you

Answer
Hello Karen,

Well, it depends on your state law, but this sounds like extortion. Remember, most states have statute of limitations that protect you. The statute may be passed. Please see: http://www.auto-insurance-claim-advice.com/Statute-of-Limitations-1.html

Contact a local attorney to make sure. You may have rights there.
