Auto Insurance Claims/SS#

Question
An adjuster for the other party said they will call me back to ask for my SS# something about medicare needing it.  I was in a wreck and went to the doctor for my neck Whiplash and am doing well so other than intial visit and Xrays, Hopefully there will be nothing else.  I'm not sure about giving up my SS#.  What do you think?

Answer
Hello Kate,

Well, there are some requirements where insurance companies must report to medicare/medicaid any treatment you may have and bills. They may need your social security to make this report. Simply ask them why and express your unwillingness to do it (SSNs are important numbers and need to be kept safe - Identity Theft).

Try that and see.

Good Luck
