Auto Insurance Claims/Who can settle claim with an adjuster?

Question
My daughter was injured in a car accident in Florida when she was a minor (17).  She is now an adult (18 and 2 mos.).  I want to know if I can settle any claim for her, verbally or otherwise, that is binding to her after she turned 18.

Answer
Hi Lisa,

As far as I know you can not settle this claim. Now that she is 18, she is the only one that can settle the claim for herself or she can hire an attorny to do it for her. The reason is that now that she is 18 if the insurance company settled with you and she did not sign off on the settlement, your daughter could file suit against the insurance company to get her own settlement.

I hope this helps
