Auto Insurance Claims/Auto Accident and Injury

Question
Dear Ms. Anne,
I was recently involved in an auto accident in Michigan. I borrowed my sister's vehicle and was hit by a driver who failed to yield properly at a red light before turning into traffic. I sustained soft tissue injuries which include a sprained back (also having muscle spasms from time to time) and sprained knee which is beginning to build fluid on it. I have been off work ever since the accident. My 1st question is by me not having a personal auto insurance policy of my own who would be responsible for my lost wages? My 2nd question is would the at fault's party insurance company be the one to offer a settlement? My sister's insurance company state farm had me fill out and return my injury claim papers which allows them to access my medical records. It seems as if they are taking forever to decide if they are going to pay for my lost wages and medical. I do have health insurance but i need my lost wages. Any advice will help. Thank you.

Answer
Hello Shanne,

Well, Michigan is a no fault state. You may have to pay for your own damages unless the injuries are "life sustaining."

It's not as simple as in other "at fault" states. You want to talk to a local attorney about your situation.
