Auto Insurance Claims/Insured vehicles; expired license

Question
Hello;

I have two vehicles (Florida)for which I pay insurance for. My drivers license has expired.I cannot renew for health reasons until later this year when I restore my vison thru surgery. Thus I am not driving, I still pay insurance to cover myself and banks of our interests. My friends and family use cars to drive me around. they are not in insurance. The car was parked at a restaurant. While parked another car jumped into parking lot hitting my car and others in the area. My car was damaged ($3K damages) no one was hurt or in the car at the time. Police witnessed accident and declared other driver at fault. They do NOT have insurance..it was cancelled.

Will I lose my coverage for filing a claim without a valid drivers license? Can I still have insurance even though I don't drive temporarily? Should I go to insurance or get an attorney?

Any thoughts? Suggestions. What are my risks and opportunities?

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Peter,

You should file the claim with your insurance company. You will be responsible for your deductible. Considering there was no one driving your car there will be no issue as far as coverage. There should be no issue as far as you keeping your insurance either.

It would not make sense to get an attorney. If the at fault person could not afford to keep there insurance up, they likely have nothing for you to get.

I hope this helps
