Question
We removed Collision coverage from vehicle 2 months ago, after several years of payment. Collision-(rear ended vehicle)Accident occurred in morning 9am, call insurance to ask if I add collision when is it active? Told it is retroactive to this morning 12:01 am. Am I covered for the accident or not?

Answer
Hi Valene,

You can not buy coverage after an accident has occured. That woulkd be like buying homeowners insurance after your house has caught on fire. That would be considered to be insurance fraud. Coverage is generally effective at the time you purchase it if you want coverage on the same day. If you seek a future effective date, it will be effective at 12:01am on that future date.

I hope this helps
