Question
Bennie, I'm closing in on a 22 year career in the Air Force with 19 of those years in computers and the last 3 as a paralegal where I've been trained a little bit on torts, subrogation, and personal property claims.  I'm really interested in pursuing a second career as a claims adjuster, but have been overwhelmed with all the possibilities I've seen on the internet.  I have a four year degree, and lots of management experience, so it looks like a start at Progressive would be relatively easy as they provide training also.  However, I've read some pretty negative reviews, but could definitely use the training they provide.  I've recently run across some on-line training for Xactimate software and would wonder if this would be worth my time and money also.  Any suggestions on where to get started?  I'll be moving back to the Dayton, OH area when I do retire.  Thanks!!

Answer
Hi James,
I agree that your education and computer skills are excellent background for a new career in being a claims adjuster.
I don't feel that any on-line training would be an asset.  In my opinion, you should apply to State Farm, Allstate and Farmers for a position as a Bodily Injury Claims Adjuster.  These are all large companies with lots of room for advancement and each has an in-house training program.
I have brought many people into this business with education and skills such as yours and seen them advance to high echelon management and two made it all the way to Vice President.
I hope this has been of help, please write again if I can be of more assistance.
Your feedback by rating my answer will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bennie
