Auto Insurance Claims/borrowed my boyfriends car

Question
I had borrowed my boyfriends car and was in a minor accident. It was my first experiance and was in a state of panic. There was a language barrier between the other driver and myself, we exchanged information, but he did not give me his insurance info. Then he left. No witnesses and no police were called. When i got home i had my boyfriend call the insurance company and find out what to do and if we had uninsured and all that. They took down the information, but we weren't looking to file a claim, especially since he  was not the one driving. We didn't hear back from them or receive any paperwork. Now the other guy's insurance has called and is asking for a statement. If i give a statement  do i have to file a claim with our insurance and if i do  that will they see it as fraud?

Answer
Hi Danni,
You should have filed a claim during that first telephone call to your boyfriends insurance company.  There is legal wording in the policy that they must be given a full report within a 'reasonable' time period, or they can deny the claim.
Call his insurance company immediately and make a report of the accident and inform them of the contact by the adverse insurance company.
I hope this has been of help, please write again later as this claim progresses and more questions arise.
Your feedback by rating my answer will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bennie
