Question
i have a 1997 ford f-350, 7.3 diesel...looks like my water pump is going bad.  I noticed a puddle under the front end and when i crawled under i can see a continous drip. can actaully see the water pump itself but the drip is coming from the fan clutch. if it is the water pump can you tell me if this is something i want tackel on my own or is this something that I'd be better off taking it to a mechanic...my auto repair/maintenance knowledge is limited to the basic type of stuff.  also, what repair price range am i looking at as well.   thanks

Answer
Does your truck over heat?? If not its not your Water pump, probably your A/C Compressor or A/C lines, If you have a FREEON leak it will cause a puddle of water. Im not sure on a ford 350 diesel, but i do know replacing the water pump requires Loosening belts from a pulley or alternator. Sometimes it also involves setting the timing! Its better to take it to a mechanic. Try to zero in on the leak before anything, make sure its just not a heater hose or lower radiator hose or hole. Price: depends on how crooked the mechanic is! Make sure the fluid leaking is WATER also!!! Some auto mechanic places take parts from customer, can save money by shopping around for part at local auto stores.
