Question
I have a 1998 Oldsmobile alero with the 3.4L engine thats gone bad, will a 3.4L engine out of a 1999 grand am interchange?

Answer
They didn't sell the Alero as a 1998 model in the U.S.  They started production in April of '98 as '99 models.  If you are going by the date on the door tag, don't.  The model year on your registration is what you should go by.  So, your Alero should be a '99, same year as the Grand Am, and yes they have the same engine.  There shouldn't be any differences at all.
