transmission sliping

Answer
Assuming that this is an automatic transmission, slipping can be caused by two things.  One is low fluid level, which I assume you have checked, and the other is low internal hydraulic pressure.  You could go to a parts store and buy one the many products which claims to fix this problem.  Put it in the car and see if it works.  If it doesn't then the transmission needs servicing.  If there are over 100K miles on the car I would suspect that it is just worn out.
