Question
I bought a used 2001 Dodge Durango 4x4 and I lost the one set of keys I have for it. After calling the dealer and finding out that it will cost me almost 200.00 dollars to replace this one damn key! I don't have that kind of money but I need my car, do I have ANY other recourse than going through a dealer? ( and does my car have to be present for the key to programmed? and do I really need a replacement transponder key? thank you )

Answer
It has to be a transponder key, unless you want to get under the dash and rewire the entire car.  Look in the yellow pages for a good automotive locksmith.  Even though the dealer will tell you otherwise, they can do anything the dealer can do, and much cheaper.  Make sure the guy knows you are strapped for cash, and promise to refer customers to him in the future.  Follow through on the promise, and you're golden.
