Auto Parts/air filter

Question
Dear Mike Evans,
Do you think a K&N filter would be good for my 2008 Yaris.
It cost &43.00 compared to the 20 bucks at napa for a
regular filter.  Have read they last 50,000 miles and can
then be washed and re-oiled with a kit they sell for around
10 bucks.  Please advise as to your opinion on this.
Best regards,
David Drinkwater

Answer
Actually, they will last forever, and do a better job of filtering the air than a paper filter.  I have used K&N air filters in all of my cars since 1984, and I have always experienced excellent service.  Also, I have always experienced a noticeable increase in power from changing to the K&N unit; they offer less resistance to airflow than the paper filter.  So, even if you get rid of the car before you need to change the filter again, it will pay you back in increased performance and efficiency.
