Question
i have to replace the cable but need a diagram to follow, any suggestions?

Answer
The closest thing to a diagram would be the exploded-view drawing in the dealer's parts book.  Most dealers will give you a printout or copy of this drawing if you are shopping there for parts and aren't sure what you need.  On most front-wheel-drive cars the routing isn't much of an issue, you just look at it and it only goes in one way.  Some rear-engine cars can be a bit tougher to figure out, but still, very few mechanics would even think about needing a diagram, the cable always follows the path of least resistance.  Make sure you have replacements for all of the fasteners and clips, etc. that you are going to need before you start, that will give you a good reason to visit the dealer.
