Auto Parts/rear \front seal casket repair

Question
I understand that it is expensive for a mechanic to replace the seals for a car that has been badly maintained, but do you think it would be worth it, or would it be better just to work on buying another car?  I have a 2003 Misubishi Montero Sport and it needs to have the rear engine seal (and who knows what else) replaced.  Thanks.

Answer
This kind of job takes a little while, but less time on a rear-wheel drive platform (fore and aft engine) than on a FWD platform.  And, the parts are dirt cheap for this job.  The thing you have to consider is the mileage on the car and the mileage you need to get from the repair to make it worthwhile.  Get two or three estimates first, then figure it out.
