Auto Parts/91 Toyota 4x4 starts then sputters for a few seconds

Question
Hi Mike,

I have a 91 4x4 3.0 that starts up and sputters for a few seconds before it dies. I thought it was a fuel issue and changed the fuel filter and inspected the fuel pump.  It appears to be pumping a lot of gas. After this, I wasn't getting a spark, so I replaced the ECU and the spark came back.  Now my newest problem has lead me to replace the circuit opening relay, MAF sensor, ignitor, coil, efi relay, and the ignition switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
I hope you replaced the spark plugs while you were fooling with the spark.  If not, do so as they are probably hopelessly wet with fuel.  Then check the timing belt and make sure that it hasn't jumped a few teeth.  If that doesn't work you might want to find a good mechanic who has the correct software and a scope for diagnosing the electronics.
