I would appreciate your telling mw if GEARBOX and TRANSMISSION are one and the same.

    Yes, if you are reading something written by an English-speaker, gearbox and transmission are the same.  Americans tend to call it a transmission, British normally use the term gearbox.  There is some overlap, though.  And there is the transaxle, a term used when the final drive is incorporated with the transmission in one case (such as a VW air-cooled Beetle or any front-wheel-drive car).
