Question
Hello Mike. I am repairing the ignition key cylinder on a 96 Sable. When the old cylinder was removed, damage was done to a small black plastic box next to the cylinder under the column. A connecting copper ribbon was torn and part of the plastic cover was broken off, exposing the circuit board inside. There is a small white clip still attached and another wire not connected.I cannot find a part number to identify this unit or determine what it is for. What part is this and what is its function? Thanks, Sam

Answer
I can't be certain, as I don't have any pictures of this part here, but I think it is the security box for the key.  It acts as a tiny RF receiver which talks to the chip in the key.  Best bet is to go to the Ford dealer and look at their exploded view diagram.
