Auto Parts/Engine stand testing

Question
Hi,
How do you start a modern engine with a computer, EFI etc.. independant of the car on an engine test stand? Is it as simple as connecting the injector power to the battery? or do you need to connect some kind of computer?

Thanks
Todd

Answer
You would need the ECU, the appropriate fuel pump working at the appropriate pressure, and any sensors or control boxes not mounted on the engine.  This is why you usually see techs installing these engines before they test them; it is much simpler to tune and test in the car (and the car can be easily placed on a chassis dyno).
