Question
QUESTION: What other vehicles and model years can I get a transmission from that will work in my 2000 S-10?  I believe it is a 4L60E and I am looking for to replace with a used transmission.

ANSWER:      All 4L60E transmissions are pretty much interchangeable.  However, the bolt pattern on the bellhousing used with the 2.2 is different, so it will have to come from a 2.2 equipped truck.  There are no 2.2 rear wheel drive cars.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I read that the late 4L60E (99 and up) is not interchangable with the earlier (98 and earlier).  Also, I read that the late transmissions have a bolt on bell housing.
Is there other GM vehicles that a transmission can come from that will bolt in with no more than a bellhousing swap??

Answer
Directly swapping these transmissions without reprogramming the ECU and changing out any detail differences (some sensors were upgraded, for instance) is not always possible.  This is why you seldom see anyone going to the trouble of swapping a different transmission behind a 2.2, there just isn't any reason not to find a correct one and use it.  The detachable bellhousings were used on the 4L65E, which is essentially a 4L60E with a detachable bellhousing.  They were only used with the 4.3 and the V8s, however.  I suppose you could get a custom bellhousing made for the 2.2 but, again, there isn't any good reason to do so.
