Hello!
Please tell me how careless driving can cause premature wearing away of the clutch? Please use as simple terminologies as you can because I have been surfing the internet for quite a long time but still my mind is confused so as how not should I drive to prevent the premature wear and tear of the clutch of my car.
Hello Ali,
To keep this in "simplest terms as possible", what is going to kill a clutch is a few simple things. These are listed for you below and should be avoided if at all possible.
1. Letting the clutch SLIP for extended periods of time. When shifting, only use the clutch as much as necessary to engage the transmission, then let off and give it gas, this will greatly extend the life of your clutch.
2. Grinding your gears. When shifting many people shift and hear that all too familiar grinding noise, this is a signal that your clutch is not fully pressed in, OR YOU ARE MAKING MISTAKE NUMBER THREE.
3. Wrong gear shifting. When shifting and driving it is necessary to first be cognizant of the gear you are currently in, then you should know what gear comes next, how many gears your vehicle has, and position they are. Shifting to the wrong gear or downshifting too far for where your speed and rpms are at will kill the clutch.
