Auto Parts/cam selection

Question
I'm not as concerned with mileage as pulling power. My boat weighs 5500 lbs. loaded with gas. I only tow it about 6 to 25 miles each way to the launch ramps depending on the ramp I go to, and it's not a daily driver, it says at my vacation house just for towing. Someone before me put a flowmaster muffler on it. Thanks for the help. What about a trottle body spacer?

Question -
I have a 1995 chevy suburban 4X4 with 5.7 (350) engine that I use to tow with. It has the trottle body injection. I need to have the engine rebuilt, but would like to put in a mild RV cam to increasd torque for towing. I don't know anything about selecting a cam or what is available. I have found a good rebuilder but he wants me to specify the type of cam. Can you help?
Thanks John

Hey John,
Believe it or not,any cam you get is better than the one you have. The stock cam is very mild, so, I would look for a cam that has a wide power band.If you go to any auto parts store they list a few different cams that may fit your needs. It depends on how much weight you are pulling.A 470 to 495 lift cam would be plenty for you, without reducing gas mileage too bad. Now,if you're pulling alot of weight, you may want to a performance exhaust too.Not only will it give you a cool sound but it will give you more power for not alot of money. Good luck.          Gordon.

Answer
Throttle body spacers dont do much for power they are more for RPM's. You might want to try a MSD 6L ignition box. They sell for about $200 and ar eworth it with maybe a super coil made by Accel($50).you can Always go more radical with a set of headers or maybe a set of performance cylinder heads. I know that Summit mag. has a set of World Products heads for you at about $500. doing those could give you up to about 70 more horses. Let me know if thats the sort of thing you're looking for.
