Question
How can i get started in racing,

Answer
I would need to know your age group,  and your ultimate goal. For instance if you're age 35 and haven't graduated high school, your chances of becoming a Formula One driver are non existant.

If you would like to persue racing as a hobby, your horizons are broader. However, starting racing at any level is expensive, so your education level, and your financial status make a difference as to where you might be able to go. Many people who know they can never afford to drive, get a lot of satisfaction as corner workers, fire crew , wrecker crew and the like.

So, to start driving at a young age, start with Go Karts, contact the World Karting Org. at:
http://www.worldkarting.com/  They should be able to direct you to race tracks in your local area. This is by far the best way to gain experience, and ability, and to learn if you have exceptional talent. Then you can easily  move into the lower ranks of stock racing at the local track, and go from there.  Once you've been around racing for a time, you'll begin to see the options you have, and build a plan to pursue them .

Good luck in your effort. If you would like to send me a little more information about your self, including your age, and where you'd like to be in 10 years, I'll be glad to see if I can offer more advice.  For now the best I can give you is to STAY IN SCHOOL !

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
