About Adam
Expertise
I`m a big F1 fan and have been since the early 80s. I read weekly European specialist F1 press and keep on top of what`s happening in F1, such as results and testing, team politics, what drivers are saying etc. I`m especially a follower of the French Prost (formally Ligier) team and am also involved in karting and sports car racing in England.

Experience
Writing accounts of the performance of the (then)Ligier team during Grand Prix meetings. Organinsing karting competitions for 300+ drivers and of course being an Allexperts Formula One expert

QUESTION: Im in vancouver, Canada and I'm 15. The sort of racing I'm  interested in ar open-wheel and rally

Answer
Thanks for clarifying Nav.

You need to start somewhere to learn the skills. Usually, and if you are 16 or under, this is in karting. Intensive sessions will teach you what you need to know before you can move up into cars, be they sports cars or single seaters, whichever you prefer. The ideal route for those without a budget is to shine at a graduate-earning series such as a racing school and so earn a ride in a series where again, if performances go well you may be spotted and picked up by a decent team. I don't know about kart schools in Canada but I presume there are some. It's fine to call them and talk about your plans, they are usually happy to advise.

You also need to know that really keen drivers in the past have really gone out on a limb to get their motor racing chance. Nigel Mansell for example went into massive debt, sacrificed everything, just to get a shot at an F1 career - it worked but he had to have a really spartan existence for years to pay his way into motor racing before he got the break at Lotus. If you have the talent - go for it and you may get lucky! To find out if you have the talent, you need to get into karting (or junior rallying)to see if your talent will lead to good opportunities.

There are other routes (not driving) into a motor racing career. These include:
Journalism
Mechanic
Racing team Gofur (handy man to support the team with non-technical support)
Any number of career options leading to working for a racing team. These include:
promotion/communications, engineering, dieticians/physiotherapy, finance, hospitality, HGV drivers and mechanics. Engineering involves a range of specialities such as engine, tyre, aerodynamics, wind tunnel, model making, composites manufacture and design, CAD/CAM experts, fuel technicians, laminators, hardware/software engineers, machinists and mechanical designers.

Just a thought.

Good luck,
Adam
