Question
Dan, Do you know any good/reasonable roll cage fabricators in the Sarasota area? I went to Bill Lee in Palmetto but he wanted 3k for my Spec E30 BMW.

Hi Gary:

Without question I would take the car to Andy Watts in Silver Spring. If you haven't met him, you're in for a shock.  In terms of backwoods appearance, he puts Jeb Clampett and Festus Hagin to shame.

But he builds the best doggone cages I've ever seen, neat, very well thought out, and strong with perfect welding every time. If you could ever say this about a roll cage, they are a work of art. He's done some SCCA racing, so has his wife Lyn, and they are active in the Central Florida Region. (Lyn is Governor for Destrict 4)  

He was in the Winter Haven area for a long time and built all the cages for ISC Racing, (Mike VanSteenberg) and of course many private owners as well.  I can't say enough good about his work.  

I don't know what he charges but I'm sure he's reasonable. Please tell him I sent you .

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
