Question
Hi Dan,
I recently came across information about a career in motorsports management. I live in New York and would like to attend an educational course/program into this area, however, the only location that seems to offer this training is in North Carolina. Would you know of any such training located in my neck of the woods? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Vic:

Quick answer is no - -  almost all real motorsports training has located in the Carolinas because all the NASCAR teams have located there, mostly around Mooresville SC.  It's possible there are schools located in Idianapolis as well, and perhaps somewhere in California, maybe even Detroit if you're brave !

It's a rapidly growing field but I am afraid you'll find that to persue it you will need to relocate.  But once you start working in the field, relocation will become a necessity anyway.

The best thing for you to do is contact a few of the institutions that are offering the curricula that interest you, and try to contact their guidance people.  They will know of other options and other schools.  I doubt you'll find anything in New York though.

Try doing a few google searches using variations on the topic, see what you find.

Sorry I coudln't offer more help.

Sincerely,

Dan Liddy

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
