Question
Hi Dan this James again. My girlfriends mom car does not go from park to drive. She has a 2001 Kia Sophia and its automatic transmission. you're usually quick at replying to me and i need an answer fast. I know i should be asking autoracing questions but i'm guessing you would know.

Answer
Sarry James, I really know nothing about automatic trannys' or later model "computer"  cars.  It sounds like there might be a linkage problem which would require getting under the car and checking the shift linkage to be sure it's not jammed in some way.

A 2001 car could have lots of miles on it and something as simple as worn bushings could be the trouble.

I don't know what to suggest other than avoiding the dealership.  Nearly all of them charge nearly double what you'll pay an independent garage for a repair like that.

Good luck

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
