I don't know if you would know or not but do you know how they lug nuts are put on a nascar car so fast? How are they there? I don't get where the lug nuts are at and where they come from when they put the tires on a car

Hi Sean:

Lug nuts on NASCAR racers are actually 'glued' in place. They use a very flexible glue called "weatherstrip adhesive", almost a liquid rubber. The most popular brand and I believe the best, is marketed by the 3M company (Minnasota Mining and Manufacturing) also big manufacturers of sandpaper and other abraisive products.

So as the tire changer puts the wheel on the car, the nuts are in place over the holes, and the studs actually poke them out a bit but they are already in position for the changer to spin them on with the air wrench.

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
