Question
Hello, I sent in an enquiry a few weeks ago. Thanks for your information on the ignition module! I am awaiting the part shipment you suggested would be worth a try.
I do have one more concern; this car has been in storage for most part of 12 years. Is it worthwhile to siphon or clean out the gas tank + fuel lines? IF so, what is the best way to do this - so I can start work this summer with absolutely fresh gasoline?
 Thanks!

Answer
Hi again Julie!

Inspect the tank internally for rust, this is important because rust in the gas will clog your injection system and cause major trouble. If there is internal rust you will have to remove the tank and treat it.  Write me back at that stage and I can make some suggestions.

Replace ALL fuel hose- - -no arguments here, the stuff is 30 years old !  WAY past it's service life. Go to www.summitracing.com and look for 7mm fuel injection hose. It must be for fuel injection (more expensive) because of the high pressure. You must replace all the hose on the fuel rail (top of motor) too, it's a major chore, but that's frequently where leaks occur and leaks cause fires. Engine fires generally destroy the car. Replace all the stupid crimp on hose clamps with Ideal part number 6202. Ideal clamps are among the best you can buy and still reasonably priced. Check everything very carefully twice before sttempting to start the car. Then check again for leaks and shut it off if you see any. Have a BIG fire extinguisher imeediately to hand for emergencies.

Install an aftermarket fuel filter in the line ahead of (before) the fuel pump and re-mount the pump to make room. Check Summit Racing for this part too.

Feel free to continue writing, once you finish this project you will have one sweet car. I've owned 5 of them and wish I had one now !!

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
