Question
Hi Dan,im sorry to bother with this question, but i want to know the best way to start racing.I dont know any race driver,so i thought this would be the second best thing to do.So,i want to start racing, but im 16,from what ive heard it is a bit late..and i read a former post, where someone was asking how to start racing, and you answered by having a bit of talent and a LOT of ambition, but the thing is,i have LOADS  of ambition,i dont know if i have the talent..its difficult for me to get a go on a go kart, because: a)i live in portugal, not many race tracks around, and b)the place where i live,is like 60 miles from the nearest track...Any advice?

Answer
Hola Francis !

Maybe you should save up some money from jobs and try to travel to the closest tracks on weekends when you can afford it. .  Experience is where you learn race driving, and that is gotten on race trackks. I have no simple answer to your particular problem though.

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
